Abstract
There are currently two identical bills pending in Congress (House Resolution 4730 and Senate Bill 2148) which this research will examine. Title I of these bills would establish a reforestation and conservation program entitled the Conservation Reserve Program. The Secretary of Agriculture would be able to designate land regularly used in the production of certain crops as eligible for program participation. If a landowner of farmer places the‐designated land in the program it must be planted in a “shelter belt,” which is an area of vegetative cover. Shelter belts can be divided for simplicity into two types, grassland and tree.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to propose a permanent magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance machine (PMASynRM) using ferrite magnets with the same power density as rare-earth PM synchronous motors used in Toyota Prius 2010.
Design/methodology/approach
A novel rotor structure with rectangular PMs is discussed with respect to the demagnetization of ferrite magnets and mechanical strength. Some electromagnetic characteristics including torque, output power, loss and efficiency are calculated by 2D finite element analysis.
Findings
The results of the analysis show that a high power density and high efficiency for PMASynRM can be achieved using ferrite magnets.
Originality/value
This paper proposes a novel rotor structure of PMASynRM with low-cost ferrite magnets that achieves high power density as permanent machines with rare-earth PMs.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to evaluate the efficacy of a zeolite-filled silane sol–gel coating as protective layer on pretreated AZ31 magnesium alloy substrates.
Design/methodology/approach
Anti-corrosion properties of a silane–zeolite composite coating, at various zeolite content, have been investigated on AZ31 magnesium substrates subjected to different surface pretreatment procedures before coating deposition. A short time etching by hydrofluoric acid (HF) and an anodic polarization in NaOH solution were used as surface pretreatments.
Findings
High hydrophobicity and good adhesion performances of coatings have been observed. Corrosion protection performance, during immersion in 3.5 per cent NaCl solution, was evaluated by means of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests. All coating formulations evidenced good barrier properties. Better durability properties have been shown by coating obtained on HF pretreated magnesium substrate and with a 60 per cent of zeolite content.
Originality/value
High electrochemical reactivity of magnesium alloys represents the mayor limit of its application in many different fields. In this concern, zeolite-based coatings are emerging as potentially effective environmentally friendly coating for metallic substrates. Despite aluminum and stainless steel substrates, in the literature, only expensive direct synthesis zeolite coating was investigated for its application on magnesium alloys protection. For this reason, this paper fulfills the need to assess the adhesion and anti-corrosion behavior of sol–gel silane–zeolite coating in magnesium alloy substrates.

Abstract
In empirical research, panel (and multinomial) probit models are leading examples for the use of maximum simulated likelihood estimators. The Geweke–Hajivassiliou–Keane (GHK) simulator is the most widely used technique for this type of problem. This chapter suggests an algorithm that is based on GHK but uses an adaptive version of sparse-grids integration (SGI) instead of simulation. It is adaptive in the sense that it uses an automated change-of-variables to make the integration problem numerically better behaved along the lines of efficient importance sampling (EIS) and adaptive univariate quadrature. The resulting integral is approximated using SGI that generalizes Gaussian quadrature in a way such that the computational costs do not grow exponentially with the number of dimensions. Monte Carlo experiments show an impressive performance compared to the original GHK algorithm, especially in difficult cases such as models with high intertemporal correlations.

Abstract
This study aims to examine the effects of participating in physical activities on female college graduates' starting salaries. We used an instrumental variable (IV) approach to address the possible endogeneity problem. By using the Taiwan Higher Education Dataset, we discovered that participating in physical activities during college increased an individual's earnings by 3.06%. The significant positive effect of physical activity on salary demonstrated in this study is consistent with that in other relevant studies. This study also discovered that both the intensity and the persistence of participation in physical activities affected salary outcomes. Individuals earned 0.17%–2.41% more if they exercised for an additional hour per week, suggesting the importance of the intensity of participation in physical activities. In addition, persistent participation in physical activities was associated with a 3.08% higher salary.

Abstract
Poland is the leading economy in eastern Europe as measured by its rapid economic growth, inward direct investment and pace of market changes since 1989, when it first moved towards a free market economy. An advertising industry has been one by‐product of this process, an important institution in the creation of a market orientation. Examines one related aspect of the change: the degree of adaptation of advertising by Polish marketers as measured by the advertising process. The central research question is whether or not an economy’s stage of market orientation has any impact on its advertising management.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to identify the current state, the emergent research clusters, the key research topics and the configuration of collaboration in scientific production related to the market value of soccer players.
Design/methodology/approach
This article analyzes 52 articles published between 1985 and 2021 and from the Scopus and WoS databases.
Findings
The subject is of growing interest both in academic and practical areas. A variable that frequently appears as a determinant of market value is crowd wisdom. The largest cluster related to the co-citation level shows that the main issues about soccer player market value are player performance, team performance, and the determinants of the superstar formation. Spain and Germany stand out as essential countries both in literary production and citation rate. The network of collaborations is still low.
Research limitations/implications
This study is supported by databases being constantly updated, resulting in continuous variation in the number of indexed journals. Consequently, a bibliometric analysis regarding an emergent topic can, in fewer years, be subject to essential variations. Another limitation is that it has analyzed a particular topic using the most influential databases, and the global perspective could be improved with the incorporation of other different databases. Data regarding collaborations could be helpful for investigations or policies that propose to approach the topic supported by specialized groups. This study offers the possibility for future researchers to extend the databases used, the level of analysis, or focus on specific topics or variables affecting the soccer player market value.
Originality/value
This study contributes to knowing the current state of the soccer player market value research. Studies on such topics are relatively limited concerning the literature review.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the 2015 Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Road World Cycling Championship in Richmond, Virginia.
Design/methodology/approach
An array of eclectic methods included in situ witness observations of several of the races, 21 semi-structured random interviews and multiple discussions with elements of UCI, the city of Richmond’s planners, residents and business owners during and after the championship in fall 2015.
Findings
This paper has uncovered five findings: First, the material investment was considerably smaller than that of other events (common good criterion CGC i – good governance); second, pre-planning was critical to successfully hosting the event; third, this event included not only two entities as one would expect at first glance, but many (common good criterion CGC ii – good management); fourth, a filière approach to community service and the exploitation of clustered thematic activities was of critical importance to successfully hosting the 2015 UCI Road World Cycling Championship; and fifth, this event enabled the opportunity to market other city and regional assets (common good criterion CGC iii – good outcomes).
Practical implications
Cities hoping to bid for events ought to consider hosting unique events such as road championships. Those cities will benefit from careful event pre-planning, responsible event hosting and post-event legacies in the form of socio-economic and mindscape memories.
Social implications
Bidding and pre-event planning is increasingly seen as an opportunity to locate, create and develop support for common good urban projects, which will remain valuable after the event is over or which will need to be built in spite of the bid’s result.
Originality/value
This study fills an unresearched gap on the impact of events on a city’s future non-motorized sustainable transportation priorities.

Abstract
Purpose
The introduction of professionalism in 1995 posed serious challenges for Rugby Union in Ireland, Scotland and Wales given their limited fan bases and broadcast markets. It led to the creation of a new league, the Pro14, with teams from all three countries. The paper asks whether the Pro14 has been a success and whether it might offer lessons for other sports. It thus seeks to extend the knowledge base on professional team sports and derive lessons for management of professional sports leagues in small countries.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors analyse Pro14 performance using a range of metrics, including attendances, competitive balance and team performances, in European competitions. The authors also analyse the limited financial data available for Pro14 teams.
Findings
Pro14 teams have competed successfully in European competition, offering support for claims that mergers of smaller country leagues could improve competitive balance in European soccer. The Pro14 has increased attendances through specific measures and increased broadcast income through geographic expansion. Many Pro14 teams have struggled financially. Several English and French rugby clubs have also experienced financial problems, suggesting that European rugby may need to introduce financial fair play rules (FFPs) similar to soccer.
Practical implications
The paper has implications for the Pro14 and its member clubs, particularly with reference to competition design. It may also have lessons for European football where some have suggested that mergers of smaller country leagues could improve competitive balance in European competitions.
Originality/value
The paper contributes to the academic discussion on professional team sports, particularly Rugby Union. The paper has implications for Pro14 clubs and league organisers, particularly with reference to competition design. It may also have lessons for European soccer where some have suggested that mergers of smaller country leagues could reduce the dominance of larger country leagues.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper investigates the stock market reaction to three different events related to the UEFA Champions League – the announcements of draws, odds and match results. The aim of the paper is to test whether these events are informative for stock market operators, i.e. whether they produce abnormal returns.
Design/methodology/approach
Applying the event study methodology, the authors investigate the stock market reaction before (at two events: the draw date and on the release of betting odds) and after the matches of 11 listed soccer teams in the period 2003–2019. The authors also conduct OLS regression analyses in order to disentangle the impact of firm specific variables and match characteristics on cumulative abnormal returns.
Findings
This paper finds that match outcomes affect the stock market performance of listed teams, while the announcements of draws and odds do not. More specifically, the market does not consider match outcomes involving wins and ties as informative events, while it penalizes losing teams. Moreover, investor reactions to events related to the UCL competition depend more on match characteristics than on company specific variables.
Originality/value
The study enriches the ongoing debate about the impact of soccer team results on stock market performance in several ways: using the widest time span ever adopted in this area; focusing on UCL, which is the most important soccer competition played by private clubs; disentangling for the first time the effects of draws, odds release and sporting outcome on stock returns of listed soccer clubs.
