Abstract

Purpose

Nurses need to display organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) for taking care of patients; uninterrupted care to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in a stressful situation may result in emotional exhaustion and it hinders nurses' exercise of OCB. One perceives support when positive exchanges with team leaders and members (LMX) and team and members (TMX) take place for the benefit of self and the unit and lead to a feeling of commitment to the work team; the exchange facilitates the discharge of OCB. The study aims to explore the mediation effect of team commitments on the relationship between these factors with OCB of nurses in handling COVID patients.

Design/methodology/approach

The cross-sectional exercise attempts to find the impact of emotional exhaustion, LMX and TMX on the OCB of the nurses and mediating effects of team commitments on OCB; correlation analysis and multiple regressions are in use for examining the relationships. The use of Sobel test and bootstrapping exercise confirm the mediation and consistency of mediation results on a larger sample.

Findings

The paper finds that LMX, TMX and team commitments significantly relate to OCB; emotional exhaustion negatively impacts OCB and team commitments fully mediate the relationship between emotional exhaustion and OCB and partially mediate the relation between LMX and TMX with OCB.

Originality/value

Tests demonstrate that team commitments can neutralize the effects of emotional exhaustion resulting from handling COVID-19 patients on OCB of the nurses and is an addition to organizational behavior literature. The study also presents a model that shows how positive LMX, TMX and resultant team commitments support generating OCB and offset the impact of emotional exhaustion. Theoretical and managerial implications, limitations and scope for further research discussed in the paper.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study aims to develop and test a motives-mass customization (MC) capability-performance model by dividing MC capability into product-oriented MC capability and service-oriented MC capability.

Design/methodology/approach

This research tests the hypothesized relationships using survey data from 277 Chinese manufacturing firms.

Findings

The results indicate that instrumental, relational and moral motives all have significantly positive impacts on product-oriented and service-oriented MC capability. The authors also find that product-oriented MC capability partially mediates the impacts of relational and moral motives on operational, environmental and economic performance, while service-oriented MC capability partially mediates the impacts of instrumental, relational and moral motives on operational, market, environmental and economic performance.

Originality/value

This study complements the existing MC literature by describing MC capability into two dimensions: product-oriented MC capability and service-oriented MC capability.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to study the impact of innovation climate (IC) on co-creating modular mass-customisation (CMMC) in terms of cost effectiveness, volume effectiveness, responsiveness, product modularity and collaborative assembly. Additionally, this research paper investigates the effect of IC and CMMC on the value to customer (VC) in a modular jewellery emerging market that includes international companies.

Design/methodology/approach

After conducting a comprehensive literature review, the authors suggested a conceptual framework and examined it using mixed methods approach. In addition to qualitative focus groups, questionnaires were filled – across five-point Likert scale format – through 63 depth interviews carried out with subject-matter-experts working at 14 international organisations in the Egyptian modular jewellery market. SmartPLS software was used for structural equation modelling analysis.

Findings

Results showed that CMMC positively and significantly affects VC. Furthermore, IC positively and significantly affects both CMMC and VC.

Practical implications

Recent industrial developments that can be observed in such international modular jewellery sector can be enhanced by the empirical evidence of this research regarding the importance of developing IC for more creative manufacturing approach of modular mass-customisation and better VC.

Originality/value

To the best of our knowledge, it is the first empirical study that investigates the relationship between CMMC, IC and VC in a unique jewellery market, which recently generated high customer involvement in the assembly/reassembly processes. Conceptually and empirically, it consolidates and adds to the literature of production and operations management (mass-customisation), organisational studies and innovation science (organisational climate for innovation) and applied social sciences.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to identify the driving factors that influence blockchain technology adoption in the context of a supply chain (SC), considering three dimensions: technology, transactions and collaboration.

Design/methodology/approach

An integrative systematic literature review of previous studies was conducted. Using three main dimensions: technology, transactions and SC collaboration, supported by the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology, transaction cost economics (TCE) and concepts of SC collaboration, the authors categorized factors that contributed to blockchain technology in SC in the extant literature and proposed a theoretical model that covers these three dimensions.

Findings

The findings reveal that the information sharing category – related to the SC collaboration dimension – is the category with the greatest number of motivating factors for blockchain adoption in the SC context, followed by performance expectancy and behavioral uncertainty.

Research limitations/implications

The review considers papers published until 2021 obtained from a specific database.

Originality/value

This study focuses on filling the research gap concerning technology adoption as it considers the interconnection formed by two organizations, interorganizational transactions and SC collaboration, using complementary theories to explain the phenomenon.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to assess the vulnerability of the aquifer using two models of analysis (DRASTIC and GOD) that were applied in practice in the regions of Bir Chouhada, Souk Naamane and Ouled Zouai in the district of Oum El-Bouaghi.

Design/methodology/approach

This study aims to determine the most adequate methods to ensure the protection of the Bir Chouhada, Souk Naamane and Ouled Zouai aquifer from pollution using vulnerability assessment. The application of the DRASTIC and GOD models made this evaluation possible.

Findings

The analysis of the both maps of vulnerability, resulting from the application of the two methods (DRASTIC and GOD), has revealed several classes of vulnerability that are no-, low-, medium- and high-vulnerable area. High DRASTIC vulnerability values vary between 145 and 178, and those of GOD vary between 0.07 and 0.57. It is observed that vulnerability increases from the center toward the eastern part of the plain; this is confirmed by the repartition of nitrate contents. The impact of the hydraulic conductivity on vulnerability to pollution is more significant than those of the vadose zone and the aquifer media. This is well observed when considering the single-parameter sensitivity analysis.

Originality/value

The text deepens the understanding of the vulnerability assessment and quality of the aquifer and the groundwater. The present study can be used for the assessment and the management of groundwater.

Abstract

Purpose

Based on the existing literature in the field of green supply chain management (GSCM), the purpose of this paper is to find essential to conceptualize and develop an efficient appraisement platform for the purpose of benchmarking green alternative in supply chain network.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors explored multiple approaches, i.e. Višekriterijumsko kompromisno rangiranje (VIKOR), simple additive weighting (SAW) and grey relational analysis (GRA) by amalgamating fuzzy sets theory to select the most appropriate alternative for GSCM. The work is supported by triangular fuzzy number sets to choose the green alternative industry among available industries, while dealing with the uncertainty and vagueness in GSCM. A case study is exposed to identify strong and weak indices and to exhibit the feasibility of the proposed work.

Findings

It is requisite by the managers of many firms to identify the strong and weak indices relating their firms. Thus, the authors presented an approach for measuring and appraising the performance of the selected green alternative by determining the strong and weak indices. The presented work illustrates the performance measurement model that identifies comprehensive GSCM practices of the firms. The presented work incorporates green supply chain activities to support environmental sustainability throughout the supply chain.

Research limitations/implications

GSCM is necessary to the firms, as it considers impact onto the environment due to their supply chain activities. The authors build decision support system to facilitate the managers of various firms for modeling green practices in their decision making. The authors attempt to devise a conceptual framework linked with knowledge-based theory.

Originality/value

The authors conceptualized VIKOR, SAW and GRA methodology to rank and benchmark the green performance of distinguish alternative industries among available industries. Additionally, the performance measurement model for the selected significant green alternative is presented for determining the strong and weak indices.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to reasonably quantify the radial deformation of turbine blade from a probabilistic design perspective. A probabilistic design for turbine blade radial deformation considering non-linear dynamic influences can quantify risk and thus control blade tip clearance to further develop the high performance and high reliability of aeroengine. Moreover, the need for a cost-effective design has resulted in the development of probabilistic design method with high computational efficiency and accuracy to quantify the effects of these uncertainties.

Design/methodology/approach

An extremum response surface method-based support vector machine (SVM-ERSM) was proposed based on SVM of regression to improve the computational efficiency and precision of blade radial deformation dynamic probabilistic design regarding non-linear material properties and dynamically thermal and mechanical loads.

Findings

Through the example calculation and comparison of methods, the results show that the blade radial deformation reaches at the maximum at t = 180 s; the probabilistic distribution and inverse probabilistic features of output parameters and the major factors (rotor speed and gas temperature) are gained; besides, the SVM-ERSM holds high computational efficiency and precision in the non-linear dynamic probabilistic design of aeroengine typical components.

Practical implications

The present efforts provide a method to design turbine besides other aeroengine components considering dynamic and non-linear factors base on probabilistic design for further research.

Social implications

Moreover, the present study provides a way to design dynamic (motion) structures from a probabilistic perspective.

Originality/value

It is proved that the dynamic probabilistic design-based SVM-ERSM could produce a more reasonable blade radial deformation while maintaining low failure probability, as well as offer a useful reference for blade-tip clearance control and a promising insight to the optimal design of aeroengine typical components.

Abstract

Purpose

The paper attempts to discuss the optimal pricing decisions under the decentralized and centralized decision and analyze the influence of online reviews and in-sale service on dual-channel supply chain. Finally, the authors design a two-part tariff coordination mechanism.

Design/methodology/approach

To deal with this pricing conflict problems of dual-channel supply chain consisting of dominant manufacturer and a retailer, considering the fact that online reviews and in-sale service are important factors on consumers’ purchase decisions, the authors establish some basic models and exploit them to discuss the optimal pricing decisions under the decentralized and centralized decision and analyze the influence of online reviews and in-sale service on dual-channel supply chain. Finally, the authors design a profit-sharing coordination mechanism.

Findings

The results show that the optimal online direct selling price is positively correlated with product perceived quality obtained from online reviews and negatively correlated with the in-sale service. The traditional retail price is positively correlated with the in-sale service and weakly correlated with online reviews. For the manufacturer and retailer, whether decentralized decision or coordination contract, their profits increase with the increase of the in-sale service in a certain range and quality perceived from spontaneous online reviews. Online reviews and in-sale service are important factors on consumers’ purchase decisions. Positive in-sale services and online reviews can provide consumers with a better shopping experience, thereby promoting their enthusiasm for shopping and improving their quality of life. The two-part tariff coordination mechanism improves the profits of the manufacturer and the traditional retailer, respectively, through the transfer fee.

Originality/value

The proposed approach can well analyze the channel conflicts and pricing problems between retailers and manufacturers with respect to product offline price and online price. The analysis and results can inform decision-making for manufacturers and retailers.

Abstract

It is seen that emotional intelligence, which is the subject of research in many disciplines, especially psychology and social sciences, is one of the prominent concepts. Emotional intelligence has become a sought-after feature especially for today's leaders. It is possible to say that emotional intelligence is an important feature for leaders in the energy sector as well as for leaders in other fields. This study aims to determine how and to what extent emotional intelligence has an effect on leadership characteristics in today's conditions where the need for leadership is increasing. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the effects of emotional intelligence levels of managers in the energy sector on leadership. For this purpose, hypotheses have been developed, and a research has been conducted on managerial employees in an enterprise operating in the energy sector in order to test the hypotheses. In the study, the effects of emotional intelligence dimensions such as optimism, use of emotions, and evaluation of emotions on leadership were measured by analyzing the data obtained as a result of the questionnaire application. SPSS package program was used for statistical analysis of the data. According to the results of the research, it was determined that effective leadership increased as optimism/mood regulation increased. Similarly, as the evaluation of emotions increased, effective leadership increased.

Abstract

Purpose

The aim the study is to explore the impact of real exchange rate volatility and other macroeconomic variable such as price of import, industrial production and real exchange rate on 45 import commodities, considering global financial crisis period on India's import from the US. The empirical analysis at disaggregate level of import indicates the existence of both short-run and long-run effect in one-third importing commodities. The results show both positive and negative effect and causality among variables.

Design/methodology/approach

The study uses E-GARCH model to gage the real exchange rate volatility, an autoregressive distributive lag (ARDL) bound test technique to discover the adequate short- and long-run relationships and Toda-Yamamoto causality method to analyze the causality among variables. The study uses the time period from 2002:M09 to 2019:M06.

Findings

The empirical analysis at disaggregate level of import indicates the existence of both short-run and long-run effect in one-third importing commodities. The results show both positive and negative effects and causality among variables.

Practical implications

The finding of the study suggests that macroeconomic variables have significant role and could be important to undertake the small and medium scale industries in policymaking. Government may need to make decision for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as their performance can bring change in the trade to compete globally by increasing and controlling the price of the import and defending the domestic competitiveness.

Originality/value

The study uses additional variable namely price of import and includes the global financial crisis period to measure dampening effect on each commodity by using robust econometric technique in context of emerging nation like India.
