Abstract

Purpose

Considering the constraints on resources and the need for firms’ planning to avoid recession and underdevelopment, enhanced investment efficiency would promote the capital market attractiveness and increase the performance of capital market investment. Empowering these markets through investment efficiency requires to promote the flow of information disclosure to stakeholders to provide the greater coherence and integration of information, enhance equal decision-making capabilities and promote trust and confidence in the company. The present study aims to examine the impact of stakeholder relationship capability on investment efficiency through testing the mosaic theory.

Design/methodology/approach

In this study, two criteria (namely, the ratio of net fixed assets to total assets and investment level) were used to measure investment efficiency. Furthermore, meta-synthesis and Delphi analyses were adopted based on a five-point Likert scale to measure the development of stakeholder relationship capability. To collect the research data, the questionnaires were sent to 142 companies in 2019, of which 112 questionnaires were returned by the managers of the firms listed in Tehran Stock Exchange. To fit and test the research hypothesis, partial least squares analysis was used.

Findings

After confirming the fit of the model, the results revealed that the stakeholder relationship capability had a positive and significant effect on investment efficiency.

Originality/value

With regard to the mosaic theory, this finding confirms that the equity of information in reflecting news and knowledge among stakeholders can promote the role of the firm’s stakeholder relationship capability, thus enhancing the investment efficiency.

Abstract

Purpose

This article aims to contribute to the accounting knowledge literature by presenting the framework of creative accounting factors and evaluating their identified factors through an argumentation-based total interpretive structural modeling (TISM) approach.

Design/methodology/approach

This study adopted mixed, inductive and deductive approaches to develop an integrated framework, validate its practicability and verify its effectiveness in selected manufacturing firms listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE), respectively. In developing the framework and implementation procedure, the study employed an exploratory data collection (qualitative) approach to review the phenomenon of creative accounting factors. Then, in this study’s second phase, TISM is used to develop the framework of creative accounting design. This study used two types of theoretical sampling in the qualitative part, including theoretical and snowball sampling. Also, the participants in the TISM process in this study were specialized analysts of the TSE.

Findings

Based on the mixed method of this study, the result in the qualitative part provides the creative accounting framework of the existence of three categories. There are 6 components and 35 themes during 12 interviews. In the quantitative section, it was determined that two factors, namely the type of ownership firms and intrinsic objectivity, are the most effective drivers for the formation of creative accounting in TSE firms.

Originality/value

So far, it is rare to find preceding studies that have proposed, validated and practically tested an integrated creative accounting framework within the context of financial markets. Thus, the authors understand that this is the very first research focused on the development of a framework for capital market companies to continuously be competitive and could help financial decision-makers, practitioners and academicians in their perception of knowing more about the financial functions of firms.

Abstract

Purpose

Behavioral characteristics and the existence of personal knowledge and skills that are essential in forming a capable manager with specialized insight, is one of the most important evaluation processes in appointing a manager. Wisdom as a trait of a set of personal characteristics and cognitive knowledge of a capable manager will gain competitive advantages for the company and external stakeholders. The purpose of this study is to present the framework of managerial financial wisdom through qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.

Design/methodology/approach

The study uses grounded theory methodology to identify factors for managerial financial wisdom and uses a MICMAC process to evaluate the power of driving and dependence among factors. MaxQDA software was used for data coding and analysis. The MICMAC process by determining the location of each of the sub-themes in the four-dimensional matrix, seeks to determine the most effective criterion in the context of the study. The method of data collection is mixed and in terms of philosophical nature, this study is inductive/comparative.

Findings

The results of the research in the qualitative part indicate the presentation of a framework based on two categories, four components, and thirty themes. The results of the quantitative part of the study also showed that the most important factor of managerial financial wisdom is market-oriented values. Finally, it was found that the social trust caused by managerial financial wisdom is considered a factor in gaining more shares in the capital market due to the positive stimulus in this dimension.

Originality/value

The study is relevant for both practitioners and academia and has significant implications. For practitioners, the structural linkages identified will help enhance managerial wisdom effectiveness and drive the critical metrics for financial decisions and shareholders' rights protection. The study may help financial market practitioners better understand future policies. Academia and researchers can take reference from methodologies used in this study for exploring factors of interest and developing matrix linkages among them.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of anarchist accounting (AA) on stakeholder relationship capability (SRC) in the context of Iranian capital market companies.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of anarchist accounting (AA) on stakeholder relationship capability (SRC) in the context of Iranian capital market companies.

Design/methodology/approach

This study is based on a descriptive survey-correlation data collection method. As this study is on (AA) and (SRC) in Iran, the population of the study is made up of all financial managers and heads of the accounting department of capital market companies in Iran. Among 185 companies (Tehran Stock Exchange [TSE]), 100 companies were selected as samples which are all in the TSE. As suggested by Niles (2006), a minimum sample size of 10% of the population is generally acceptable. A questionnaire survey was adopted in obtaining primary data for this study. Thus, based on Cochran sampling techniques, 395 questionnaires were returned and became the basis of analysis. Also, partial least square was used to test the research hypothesis.

Findings

The statistical findings indicate the fit of the structural desirability of the factor load and according to the standardized coefficient (path coefficient), the dimensions of AA have a negative and significant effect on SRC, because the path coefficient is positive.

Originality/value

Theoretically, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first research that tries to examine the stakeholder relationship capability through the link between social/political approaches with accounting procedures, an issue that has not been considered in any prior study. Also, conducting the present study in the conditions of social distrust in the Iranian capital market can be important, because the expansion of anarchist accounting helps to create a level of symmetry and equality in information disclosure and it can create value for shareholders.

Abstract

Purpose

One of the most emerging areas of audit knowledge is sustainable quality, which can comprehensively cover the development of audit reports inclusiveness for stakeholders. The purpose of this study is to present the sustainable audit quality (SAQ) framework based on the UK Financial Reporting Council.

Design/methodology/approach

The paper discusses the main concepts in both spreadsheets and process mining. Using a concrete data set as a running example, the different types of process mining are explained. Where spreadsheets work with numbers, process mining starts from event data with the aim to analyze processes.

Findings

The results of the study showed that the SAQ is more effective based on the two criteria of going concern and disclosure of key audit items. It was also determined that, based on total interpretive structural modeling, the two themes of debt covenants disclosure and assessment of firms’ leverage ratio have a higher priority for SAQ in the Tehran Stock Exchange.

Originality/value

This paper contributes to the discussion on the use of data mining for microarray databases and specifically for studying the present SAQ framework based on the UK Financial Reporting Council. An area that has not been paid attention to by prior research studies, and to the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first research that attempts to provide the SAQ framework.

Abstract

Purpose

With the emergence of the basis of intellectual capital, competitive advantage was considered as the focus of competitive strategies, and the knowledge resulting from this approach became the basis for the development and strategic directions of companies in various fields of the company such as finance and accounting. The purpose of this study is sustainable intellectual capital reporting framework and evaluation of key examples in the context of capital market companies.

Design/methodology/approach

The methodology of this study was exploratory from the point of view of the developmental result and based on the type of objective and qualitative and quantitative basis was used to collect the data. The statistical population in the qualitative part was university experts and in the quantitative part financial managers of capital market companies. Data collection tools were interviews in the qualitative part and fuzzy scales and language comparison checklists in the quantitative part. Therefore, first through three stages of coding, the dimensions of the model were identified, and based on the fuzzy Delphi analysis, the reliability level was determined through the average between the first round and the second round of Delphi. Finally, through the default tests, the appropriate fuzzy model was first determined, and then hierarchical fuzzy analysis based on TODIM's approach was used to determine the most favorable axis of sustainable intellectual capital reporting.

Findings

The results in the qualitative part indicate the existence of 3 categories and 6 components and 39 conceptual themes in the form of a six-dimensional model. In the quantitative part, the results showed that by confirming the dimensions identified through fuzzy Delphi analysis, the most desirable axis of intellectual capital reporting is the component of technological capital reporting, which can play a more effective role in sustainable reporting.

Originality/value

This study, relying on the importance of the consequences of sustainable intellectual capital reporting, tries to evaluate the consequences of this field of financial reporting due to the lack of a coherent theoretical framework about capital market companies. In addition, the framework presented in this study promotes integrated thinking for firms to it would provide some level of incentive to those charged with governance concerning the voluntary compliance with the sustainable intellectual capital reporting framework.

Abstract

Purpose

In recent years, Corporate Citizenship has continued to grow in importance and significance. It has been the subject of considerable debate and commentary among researchers, corporate leaders and public institutions like NGOs and even capital market companies. The development of this concept in internal audit functions can improve the level of responsibility of companies. The purpose of this study is to design an internal audit model of a corporate citizen in Iranian capital market companies.

Design/methodology/approach

This research is methodologically in the category of developmental and combined research. In this study, two meta-synthesis and Delphi analyzes in the qualitative part and systematic representation analysis were used to determine the systematic relationships of the Internal Audit Corporate Citizen Components to strengthen environmental sustainability. Because of the mix of the data collection method in both qualitative and quantitative parts, the research participants in the qualitative part were 13 university experts in the field of accounting and 19 internal auditors of Iranian capital market companies who had specialized experience participated in the quantitative part.

Findings

The results in the qualitative section indicate the existence of 14 confirmed studies and the determination of 8 main components of the internal audit of the corporate citizen, during two stages of Delphi analysis, the level of reliability of the components was confirmed with the concept of internal audit of the corporate citizen. Based on the results of system representation model in quantitative part, it was determined that Environmental training to human resources is the primary stimulus for the system’s internal audit system representation to monitor the financial performance of the company to achieve environmental sustainability.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study to exemplify environmental sustainability by focusing on the concept of corporate citizen internal auditing. An area that, although of research importance in terms of developing theoretical literature and practical basis in reducing the financial reporting gap with an independent auditor, However, less research has been done on this issue and conducting this research and expanding it to the level of internal auditing profession can enhance the institutional and educational capacities on it at the international level and help to integrate the development of theoretical literature.

Abstract

Purpose

During the current century, environmental sustainability and waste reduction processes have always been subject to scrutiny in developed societies. Developed communities have gained considerable momentum by investing in environmental infrastructure and integrating corporate performance disclosure and less developed communities are involved with it. Carbon disclosure is one of the aspects of green accounting in “corporate strategies,” especially those operating across the capital market. Adherence to the disclosure of facts can facilitate sustainable development in societies. This study aims to present strategic reference points matrix-based model to develop a framework for carbon disclosure strategies through institutional and stakeholder pressures throughout the capital market.

Design/methodology/approach

As a case study, by reviewing similar research on carbon disclosure, this study seeks to illustrate various carbon disclosure aspects and strategies in a matrix based on institutional (vertical axis) and stakeholder (horizontal axis) pressures

Findings

The study attempts to states that carbon disclosure is affected solely by the company because of the presence of agency gaps between external stakeholders and corporate executives.

Originality/value

However, the firm’s decision to adopt a carbon disclosure strategy depends on the performance of stakeholder pressure (stakeholder salience level) and managers’ perceptions of institutional pressure (institutional pressure centrality level).

Abstract

Purpose

As one of the dominant features in developing countries, gender inequality has driven individual development and the promotion of skills, behavioral and social competencies largely based on the male gender. The audit profession is considered one of the jobs where gender inequality exists, especially in developing countries. This has made educational programs more inclined toward enhancing masculine abilities, followed by less well-regarded feminine functions in the field. This study aims to present a triple-strength model of female auditors empowerment in Iran.

Design/methodology/approach

This is a goal-oriented, descriptive-applied developmental research and a mix of data types. In the qualitative section, the three-dimensional empowerment proposition of women working in the field of internal auditing (IA) were identified based on the Dacum model approach participated by 15 research experts, using cross-sectional and Delphi analyses. A total interpretive structural model analysis was performed with the participation of 20 women as internal auditors of companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE).

Findings

The purpose of this analysis was to prioritize the spectrum of the most influential indices of empowerment of female auditors in educational planning to the least effective ones in the form of the research model and to examine the relationships between them based on matrix comparisons. According to the results, 17 indices reached theoretical adequacy during the 2 rounds of Delphi analysis out of the initial 19 indices in the cross-mix analysis.

Originality/value

The results of the interpretive/structural analysis indicated that educational planning was selected to balance the other roles of women as internal auditors, and the most influential Dacum proposition was to enhance the capabilities of women in IA in listed companies in TSE.

Abstract

Purpose

Automotive industry is one of the most important industries in the economy of countries due to its extensive relationship with other industries; high production and employment rate play a significant role in the sustainable development of countries. Therefore, the improvement of value creation integration strategies in this industry is very important because it is related to the level of economic sustainability of countries. The purpose of this study is to analyze the integration matrix of the creating sustainable value process in the automotive industry.

Design/methodology/approach

This research is a development/mixed methodology that aims to symmetrically combine the relationship between the components of sustainable value creation integration through Mick Mac matrix analysis to identify the most effective drivers of the research subject in the Iranian automotive industry. Therefore, in this study, first, in the qualitative part, meta-synthesis analysis and Delphi analysis were used to identify the thematic components of the integration of the process of creating sustainable value and to determine the theoretical adequacy of the components. Then, in a small part, an attempt was made to explain the approved components, based on the symmetric matrix analysis in the Mic Mac diagram, in the automotive industry to determine a more stimulus for integrating the sustainable value creation process, with the participation of 16 automotive executives.

Findings

Based on the results in the qualitative section, 8 thematic components were identified to evaluate the integration of the sustainable value creation process, and after Delphi approval, these components were approved in terms of theoretical adequacy. The results in the quantitative part based on matrix analysis showed that the most motivating component in integrating the process of creating sustainable value in the automotive industry is the development of innovative ideas. To create integration in creating sustainable value, it is necessary to create a positive impact of creative ideas in the three components of balancing performance with the changing needs of K3 customers, the dynamics of communication with K8 suppliers, reducing the diversity of materials used in K5 production.

Originality/value

This paper is considered as a research that contributes to the broader research area of the automotive industry by unpacking the concept of value creation from a sustainability perspective. This is the first study to review extensively of integrating sustainable value creation process into the automotive industry. Although an area of research importance in terms of developing theoretical literature and applied basis in increasing the effectiveness of competitive strategies. But less research has examined this issue, and conducting this research and expanding it to the level of sustainability value literature can enhance its institutional and research capacities at the international level and contribute to the coordination of the development of theoretical.
